We recently sat down with a senior engineer working on a plant upgrade in WA’s Eastern Goldfields to review the delivery of a critical package of works.
“When we got BBCP involved, I already knew about the company as this was an expansion project. We worked closely with the team and completed a technical evaluation, then went right through to ultimately the delivery of goods.”
The package, valued at $650,000, included the supply of conveyor cleaners, pulleys and idlers across four conveyors. “When you’re delivering a scope like this, success hinges on more than scope and specs,” he said.
Having worked as both client and contractor through his career, the engineer brought insight and experience to vendor engagement. He praised BBCP’s approach, calling out the responsiveness of John McKimmie in particular:
“You always hope vendors understand what they’ve signed up for! John was easy to deal with. He was very relaxed when it came to meeting extensions or talking about anything outside the specification”. From experience, he knows the difference the right supplier makes.
‘You can either be a liability or an asset. Ultimately, this was a relationship of enabling: I’m going to let you do what you need to do, stay out of your way — but I’ll also make sure the contractual boundaries are clear.’”
From BBCP’s perspectives, John McKimmie said the project worked well because both parties were aligned from the start.
“There was trust and transparency from day one. The client gave us a clear framework to work within, but also the autonomy to get on with it. That made it easy to focus on delivering, not defending decisions.
These kinds of projects always come with a few moving parts, and the key is open communication. If something needed adjusting — scope, timing, whatever it was — we could have a straight conversation about it and keep momentum.
Everyone was clear on the outcome and respected the process. That’s what makes a job run smoothly” John added.
On the ground, delivery involved equipment supply across four conveyors, followed by commissioning and formal close-out, underpinned by a two-year defect liability period.
The engineer put it best, “Our success is your success”.
